Highlights from Glee 2025: Sustainable Gardening with Wool

We had an absolutely fantastic time at Glee this year! For those who aren’t familiar, Glee is the UK’s premier garden trade event, bringing together garden retailers, landscapers, and horticultural enthusiasts from across the country. It’s the perfect place to discover new products, share ideas, and get hands-on with innovative gardening solutions and we were thrilled to be part of it.

A Hortiwool stand at Glee 2025

One of the highlights for us was having our potting bench on display. It was brilliant to see so many people getting hands-on with wool. Experiencing firsthand just how versatile and effective it is in the garden. Using our Hortiwool Garden Pads, visitors could try their hand at planting and see for themselves how wool can support healthy plant growth.

The Benefits of Wool

At Glee, we had plenty of opportunities to talk about the many benefits of using wool in the garden. Wool is a natural, sustainable material that’s perfect for helping plants thrive.

One of the key benefits is its incredible moisture retention. Wool can hold up to 30% of its body weight in water and release it slowly to plant. Keeping them hydrated while reducing the need for frequent watering. But that’s not all! Wool also releases nutrients into the soil as it breaks down, providing a gentle, natural fertiliser for your plants. It works brilliantly as a mulch, helping to regulate soil temperature, suppress weeds, and improve soil structure. And for those battling garden pests, wool can even help deter slugs and snails naturally. The wool dries out their slime and tickles them, so they tend to avoid it!

Sustainable Gardening

There’s a growing shift towards sustainable gardening, and we’re delighted to be able to provide a solution that supports this. By choosing Hortiwool, gardeners can reduce reliance on synthetic products, improve soil health naturally, and make their gardening practices more environmentally friendly. It’s a small change that has a big impact, and it’s fantastic to see so many people embracing it.

Visitors to our stand were fascinated by how simple it is to incorporate Hortiwool into their gardening routine. Many learned how wool’s natural insulating properties can protect delicate roots from extreme temperatures, while also reducing waste thanks to its compostable, eco-friendly nature. It was wonderful to share these insights and see so many people inspired to start using wool in the garden in new and creative ways.

Overall, being at Glee was an amazing experience. We loved meeting so many passionate gardeners and horticultural professionals, sharing our knowledge, and showing just how much of a difference wool can make. The energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm we experienced throughout the event reminded us why we love being part of the gardening community so much.

Thank you to everyone who visited our stand, tried out the potting bench, and chatted with us about all things wool.

We can’t wait to continue supporting gardeners everywhere with Hortiwool!
